Acne Scars

Acne scars can often seem like adding insult to injury. Not only do you have to deal with the initial acne blemishes, you have to cope with the unsightly scars afterwards.

Acne affects 80% of people in their teens and twenties. Those who get deep cystic acne will develop scars.

The most important thing to do about acne scars is prevent them! This means getting control of active acne with creams, cleansers, peels, antibiotics, hormone therapy, and Accutane.

However, once the skin has scarred, your options become a lot more limited.

Treating Acne Scars

There are two options for improving acne scars: dermal fillers and skin resurfacing.*

Dermal Fillers:

Dermal fillers are substances that are injected under the skin to fill depressions such as lines, folds, and acne scars.

The most common filler for acne scars is hyaluronic acid, (eg. Juvederm) a substance that occurs naturally in the body.

Using a small needle, the filler is injected under each scar to lift the depression.

Reduction of the depth and appearance of acne scars will last 6 to 12 months.*

Micro-needling

Micro-needling remodels skin, adding elastin and collagen. This results in reduction of the depth of your scars.* Treatments start with the application of a numbing cream for 20-30 minutes. Then thousands of tiny needle punctures are made. These microscopic wounds trigger the body's healing response resulting in a improvement in your acne scars.* Afterwards, there is some stinging for a day. Generally treatments are very well tolerated. Several sessions are required (3-6) depending on the severity of the problem.

Laser Skin Resurfacing:

We can help you by arranging a state-of-the-art resurfacing treatment with the Pixel.

In the earlier days, acne scars were treated with harsh deep chemical peels or dermabrasion, both of which left a wound that required a month to heal. In the 1990s, technology evolved to the use of lasers. Early lasers made treatments more precise and safer, but downtime was still prolonged.

Today the evolution of technology gives us the Pixel: a safe, precise and effective way to treat acne scars, with minimal recovery time.*
