Neck Bands

When you hear people talking about neck bands, they are referring to loose skin around the neck that shows up as we age.

It's caused by the combination of loose skin and muscle tension in the neck.

Where do neck bands come from?

The two contributing factor are loss of collagen/elastin in the skin and the tension in your platysma muscle. This muscle  thin layer of muscle is found under your skin in the front of your neck extending all the way from your jaw to the upper collar bone. The fibers of that muscle can create visible vertical cords in the anterior neck.

Combined with sagging skin on the neck area, your appearance can be affected dramatically.

Treatments*

Nerve Blockers:

Treatments usually involve several shots given into the platysma bands to completely relax them. It takes roughly 10 minutes in total, with no downtime.

The best candidates for are women and men in their 40s to 60s.

Nerve blocker treatments should be repeated at 3 to 4 month intervals.

Skin Tightening:

Pellevé and Accent radio frequency treatments can be quite effective at reducing neck bands.* Several sessions are required. They take about an hour. You feel only heat as the radio waves are applied, and there is no downtime.

Micro-needling:

Micro-needling remodels skin, adding elastin and collagen. Thousands of tiny needle punctures are made. These microscopic wounds trigger the body's healing response resulting in improvement in skin tightness, texture, and lines.* Several sessions are required (3-6) depending on the severity of the problem. Treatments are generally very well tolerated.

Surgery:

Sometimes the degree of loosening is too much for simple treatments to be effective. Surgery may be necessary. We can refer you to the appropriate physician.
